I’ve been lagging on posting of late. Yeah, I know. It’s clearly no way to build up a subscriber base under any conditions. But, I have excuses. And lots of them. For example, I sold my home, negotiated my job contract for next year, completed my Master of Education degree, and found out I am going to be a dad! Anyways, this blog’s not really about all of those peripheral things so I don’t want to bore you to death. In lieu of a tepid or sub-par post about music, how would you like to see where I’m vacationing for a couple of weeks since I’m pretty much homeless now?

I went on a little Detroit house/techno buying binge last week at turntablelab.com and the package just arrived yesterday.

Despite the fact that I am trying to reduce the number of purchases I make of objects that will just clutter my home, I cannot seem to resist the temptation that vinyl offers. The sweet vinyl treats the package contained will keep me satisfied for the moment and I can continue to deny that I don’t have an addiction to black crack. I think you should go out and satisfy your primal consumer urges as well.

Serge Gainsbourge Tres Magnifique

I’m sitting here sipping on coffee, pounding out some code while listening to this and I just had to stop and write about this. I just picked up Serge Gainsbourg’s Les Annees Psychedeliques 1966-1971 from Record City in San Diego and I have to say that I am very pleased with this purchase.

I am happy I was able to support a local store and support the continued existence of vinyl whenever possible. I’ve always been a fan of his work, but this is really speaking to me right now. It’s a double LP compilation of some of Serge’s greatest tunes of the era. A clear standout is Serge’s “Requiem Pour Un Con” and what’ even better is that they have included a Bonus Beats for the same track. Loop it up, remix it, re-edit or do what you will.

Tracks I Slept On #2

Digging back into Traxsource’s site and ran across the track “Hunted” by Martin Buttrich The track has such a deep, sultry vibe and the word “warehouse” comes to mind. Martin’s layered in some sexy vocals that have gotten stuck in my brain.

I think I need to hear this over a turbo sound system to fully appreciate it. In the interim, I’m rocking it in my ipod and in the truck.

Tracks I Slept On Part 1

Not sure how I missed this one, well, actually I was so busy finishing up grad school that I just didn’t have enough time to stay on top of releases. So I went digging back into the releases at Traxsource and stumbled across Dennis Ferrer’s last release on Objektivity-Son of Raw-A Black Man in Space.

The best mix of the lot is the Sax Mix as it has a deep driving bassline and the sax just kicks you in the ass when it comes in. I picture Doc Martin and many others just hammering this tune at peak hour. You can’t help but smile when the sax comes in and I could listen to this tune over and over. Thanks Dennis for putting out such a great track!
