refurbished nslu2 (slug). you should buy one. ’nuff said

March 22nd, 2008

I’m diving into a bit of nerd right now because I’ve been staring at my monitor doing data analysis and writing reflections for the past few hours. I know what you’re saying right now. You’re saying that it’s Friday night and I should leave that for tomorrow. I would, but I’ve got way more important things to do tomorrow. Things like tweaking out on my site and watching basketball. Obviously, you don’t understand.

To cut to the chase, I’ve finally had some time on my hands this week to work on my home backup system. It was in disarray and I was really worried that I would lose all of the crap I have stored on my drives. So I got organized. I dusted off the old Linksys NSLU2 and got to work. I had relegated this badboy to only serving my needs. Now it’s serving the needs of all the laptops, desktops and other devices we have lying around the house. I’ve barely scratched the surface on this thing. Flash it with Unslung or SlugOS and you’re tapping into the power of this little demon.

Please order yourself a refurbed one on the super cheap ($30 + shipping). I’m going to test my skills and see if I can turn mine into a true file server. Fun times.
